A Simple Strengthening Method for Preventing Collapsed of Vulnerable Masonry Infills

A series of structural tests were conducted to examine the seismic performance masonry infills strengthened with particular materials on infilled reinforced concrete (RC) frame structures. Six 1:4 scaled-down RC specimens had been prepared, including one brick-infilled without strengthening and five brick innovative materials. The steel wire mesh, chicken hexagonal plastic fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP), stretch film. was diagonally applied both surfaces infill. mesh sewn using wire, while FRP sheet glued epoxy resin film synthetic rubber adhesive. tested following FEMA 461 standard testing protocol, which involved applying lateral static cyclic loading specimens. displacement transducer apparatus measured deformations specimens, crack propagation observed during experimental works. results showed that most exhibited an increase in their strength, secant stiffness, deformation capacity, energy dissipation. Among all prepared specimen best promising results, i.e., long steady strength after yielding. This result suggests for can ductility performance. It is expected withstand earthquake shaking, has low application costs, feasible even by unskilled local laborers.
